We'll explore the seemingly simple art form that is small in stature, yet capable of endless variation and complexity.
Part One: A look at the form of the picture book and a group exercise about visual storytelling. Everyone will draw. Bring a pencil or pen.

1:30 — White Space–we will have a board for people to post impromptu topics and gatherings and times to meet throughout the afternoon
4:30-5:30 — Whole Group Workshop with Alan Langdon to integrate ideas from Thursday night’s talk

While there are certainly times when writing is a solo act, sometimes it works best when it is with a collaborative one—with other authors, with editors, and ultimately with readers. This lecture will explore the how and why of this.

Part Two: Crushing the generic with the specific - picture book world building. Also, DESIGN, the often ignored, but utterly critical element. An overnight assignment will be given.
